FOUNDERS:

Nasser Quoss is the President of the Board of Al-Quds Association for Democracy and Dialogue and its co-founder. He was born in East Jerusalem in 1967, lives in its Old City and is married with two children. In 1988 he was sentenced to 3 years in an Israeli prison for active membership in the Palestinian Fateh organization and attacking Israeli troops during the outbreak of the First Intifada. During his time in prison he learned the Hebrew language and met fellow prisoner (the late) Faisal Husseini, the Palestinian Authority’s Minister for Jerusalem Affairs.

After his release, Nasser Quoss worked for Husseini at Jerusalem’s Orient House and committed himself to the active promotion of peace and reconciliation in the Middle East. He was one of the selected members for the joint Palestinian-Israeli expedition to Antarctica (2003, 2004) with "Breaking the Ice". Moreover, he has been the Head of the Palestine Prisoners' Club in the Jerusalem district for several years and dedicates his free-time to managing a local Palestinian football team, thus our Peace Sports School Project is of special interest for him.

Sulaiman Khatib is the General Director of Al-Quds Association for Democracy and Dialogue which he founded together with fellow Palestinian peace activists in 2006, initially operating under the name "Abu Sukkar Center (founded 2004)" in order to be able to create effective and sustainable projects and programs focusing on the promotion of peace, democracy and civic participation in the Palestinian Territories. Moreover, he is one of the founders of "Combatants for Peace".

Sulaiman Khatib was imprisoned as a freedom fighter at the age of 14 for 10 years and 5 months; in prison he spent his time reading about history, learning Hebrew, English and about other world conflicts and peace activists such as Ghandi and Mandela and struggling through nonviolent means to improve the life conditions in jail i.e. hunger, food strikes. In fact he acquired his entire education and constructed his worldview in jail. This is when he started to have new thoughts about the conflict and the means for resolving it.

During the second Intifada in 2000 he called for a nonviolent resolution of the conflict. Furthermore he was one of the selected members for the joint Palestinian-Israeli expedition to Antarctica (2003, 2004) with "Breaking the Ice". Sulaiman Khatib is a committed advocator for peace in the Middle East and active member of various programs and projects aiming to promote a peaceful solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict within local communities as well as on a regional and international level.
